Gasparee Caves

Become an explorer and take a descend 100 feet underground and walk through a magnificent system of natural limestone caves on the island of Gasper Grande, once used by both pirates and smugglers to hide their treasures. Imagine the glistening gems just lying in wait for you to discover.

The sightseeing trip to the island is an adventure in itself as the only transport is by boat! It is a 25-minute boat trip from Port of Spain or 15 minutes from Chaguaramas. On your way, you will have a chance to see sea creatures, such as dolphins, bopping in and out of the water: a truly magnificent sight to behold. It beckons you to keep unfolding the unimaginable.

What makes this cave so appealing is the unique translucent blue pond at the bottom, which has a depth of 10-20 feet and entices the natural observer. Seawater emerges into the cave through an underground source to form a natural clear water pool. The turquoise blue water invites you to jump in and take a swim. Although swimming is officially prohibited if you are lucky your guide may allow you to take a quick dip - which is an awe-inspiring experience for those so lucky. Take a glimpse of this visionary beauty that is Gasparee Caves. These pictures don't even come close to reality.

Let your imagination roam while you walk among the numerous stalactites and stalagmites which have been given nicknames such as "The Buddha", "Virgin Mary" and "The Lovers". If you tap the various sizes and shapes of the formations, you can even hear the different pitches. Why not make your own music! I know I did!

I can only think of one word to define my experience at this Cave. Indescribable!!

Don't pass on this adventure. Prearrange a tour with the Chaguaramas Development Authority (CDA) as you set your sights on experiencing one of Trinidad's beloved caves. It will definitely leave you speechless.
